Careers in Construction

There is more to construction than meets the eye. The activities of a construction company are not restricted to working on construction sites. Various processes are involved, ranging from design through planning to project management and execution. As a result, there are a variety of interesting job roles available in the construction business. Here are some of them below:

1.       Building Surveyors

Building surveyors give clients technical advice on building design, construction, upkeep, and repairs.

2.       Civil Engineers

Civil Engineers work on the technical aspects of designs and ensure that these designs are properly executed. They typically plan and supervise the building of public works projects such as highways, bridges, dams, tunnels, airports, and other significant infrastructure projects.

3.       Structural Engineers

In the construction process, the structural engineer's function is critical. By assessing the stability, strength, and rigidity of structures, structural engineers ensure that buildings can survive the strains and forces imposed by building materials and the environment, ensuring that proper materials are utilized for the job.

4.       Quantity Surveyors

Quantity surveyors estimate and monitor project expenses.  They ensure that structures meet legal and quality standards.

5.       Site Managers

Site managers are in charge of organizing work processes on construction sites to ensure that they are done safely, on time, and within budget.

6.       Architects

Architects are responsible for designing buildings. They collaborate with other construction professionals to ensure that designs are fit for purpose and habitable.

7.       Construction Managers

Although the role of the construction manager is similar to that of the site manager, the construction manager undertakes more responsibilities. They are responsible for the practical management and planning of every stage of a construction project. To guarantee that each phase of a building goes as planned, they schedule tasks and delegate jobs to the construction team.

8.       Crane Operators

Crane operators are responsible for lifting and moving materials around a construction site as safely and efficiently as possible

9.       Landscape Architects

Landscape Architects are different from regular Architects. They create environments in which humans may live, work, and play, as well as environments in which plants and animals can thrive.

The construction industry is a large and lucrative industry with a significant number of opportunities for young Nigerians looking to build strong, fulfilling careers.
